Here we go again welding bolsters onto 8 inch chef knife. When I first saw this being done by #salemstraub I knew I needed to learn to do it. This is the 4th attempt and results have been a little mixed so far I think I have sheared the weld while working close by. The blade is a 6 bar composite and at this stage it is around 10 mm thick it will be forged to shape and thinned a little but to get a good pattern from all of the bars I need to grind pretty deep. Making some more forks. This is how i set rhem up to mark them out. I use the height guage to create a plane parallel to the surface plate and mark a centerline then I mark lines to work to. It takes a bit of adjusting to get the center in the right place but it is better to do it now while there is plenty of material. #nzknifemaker #kitchenknives #lochac #damascussteel #mysca
I got back from Aus Blade Symposium and choped up a pile of steel ready to starry something cool then I thought better clear some space which leas to the realisation that I needed to finish some od rhe work that I was already doing like this little guy. #nzknifemaker #damascussteel #kitchenknives
